All for good reasons, I talk a lot about self care! Why? We need it in big chunks and little bites. A self care act is never too big nor too small.
Think outside of the box to keep things interesting. If you do the same thing over and over, things will get boing and mundane. Even when it comes to pampering yourself, you need to find variety. Research, ask friends for ideas, put a spin on your usual routine, change it up somehow, someway.
Here are a few ideas to try. Select an one that you don’t already incorporate in your self care regimen.
Drink Water
Water is SO important to feeling good. 60 ounces per day is a great start. Try it TODAY! Aim for half of your body weight in ounces daily. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, half is 75, drink 75 ounces each day.
Take hydration a step further, drink .5 to 1 ounce of water per body weight pound. Using the base again of 150 pounds, drink 75-150 ounces of water each day.
The benefits? Water aides in transportation of vitamins and minerals in and out of cells, may help with weight loss and maintenance.
Listen to a Podcast
A perfect time to catch a podcast, while commuting! Look for a podcast that strikes your interest such as gardening, cooking or something educational. Aim to listen to something for YOU and try to stay away from kid geared or parenting podcasts. This is your time and a chunk of the day to reset your mind, and hopefully relax!
Hike
Nothing is better to clear your mind, than a hike. The fresh air, scenic route, time out from noise are all so good for the soul! Build bone density, strength and balance at the same time. Hiking is a no brainer and a win win when it comes to self care!
Home Facial
Pull out that mask that you bought a long time ago all while having good intentions to practice more self care. A home facial is not exactly what you can experience at a spa, but it can be close, and can make you feel fabulous!
- Start with a steamy shower.
- While in the shower, cleanse your face for a few minutes, massaging your favorite cleanser in.
- Still in the shower, exfoliate.
- Rinse and shower as usual.
- Once out of the shower, pat your face dry.
- Spray with toner or witch hazel.
- lather a face mask on. The mask will help seal in moisture (one of many benefits). Rinse and pat dry.
- MOISTURIZE! Don’t skip this step…
- Massage your favorite essential oil into your temples.
- RELAX!
Garden
Do you have a green thumb? Awesome! Dive into a new project! Not sure what compost is or what nitrogen does for soil? That is ok, you can dive in too! Start with a pot and add a few complimentary plants together such as herbs or flowers. Ask any nursey what plants will grow together and they will be happy to share horticulture knowledge. Gardening can be as simple and cutting plants back, starting an edible garden or mowing the lawn. There really is no right or wrong way to garden, the main idea it to garden how YOU want to! Here is some inspiration, check it out!
