Fleet Week In San Francisco

Fleet week is back in San Francisco! This amazing day trip as so much fun for the whole family. Ship tours, parade of ships, live music, art exhibits, food vendors and the best part (in our opinion) the Blue Angels Air Show! Whether you have seen them fly before or not, the thrill of hearing the engines roar and watching the amazing air stunts never gets old. There are activities for everyone along the San Francisco waterfront. The air show is FREE to watch and you can’t beat that! Wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers. You and the kiddos will be doing a lot of walking and the bay area weather can be unpredictable and also change from hot to cold quickly. Events take place all week throughout San Francisco with the grand finale air show on October 11, 12 & 13.

Family Tip #1
If you have a toddler or young child, bring a stroller. Yes it will be crowded and that might make navigating through the crowds tedious at times, but you will be thankful for having a place for your kiddo to rest, take a nap and a place to stash supplies.

Family Tip #2
Watch the air show from a ferry! Several ferries offer cruises to watch the air show from the bay. Ferries are stroller friendly and even though you will need to purchase a ticket and shell out some money, the trade off is a awesome view, no reason to camp out and “hold” that perfect land spot, easy access restrooms, some cruises offer meals (win-win!) and less crowds to deal with. We used the Blue and Gold Fleet in the past and it was well worth it!

Family Tip #3
Plan ahead, arrive early and take public transportation if possible. Catch an earlier ferry or earlier train before the thick of the tourists. You will be happy that you have a little extra time to enjoy the trip and the sights without rushing, kids in tow.

Family Tip #4
Bring a pair of ear protection for the kids, especially if they are sensitive to loud noises. The air show can be startling at times and ear protection will make the air show much more enjoyable for them. Amazon has them starting at around $10. Well worth the few bucks!
